Writing Update August 6

I got off to a slow start on Camp NaNoWriMo but it should only take a few good writing days to get up to speed.  I really need to work on actually sitting down to write.  Not getting sick and spending the entire afternoon and evening on the floor trying not to puke again would be a good start.  Just a thought.  I was doing pretty well at writing at least a few sentences each night so that is something.  Here's hoping for a better word count next week.

Camp NaNoWriMo August 2012 Day 2

General Stats:
Words Written Today: 60
Total Words Written: 873
Cups of Coffee This Month: 2
Plans Changed to Accommodate More Writing: 0
Random Ideas Generated: 0

Random Thoughts:
- Getting off to a slow start this month.  I should be able to make up for these small word count days.
- A major nosebleed wiped out my energy, creative and otherwise, and took out a large chunk of my evening

Small Snippet of Novel:

“’After the eclipse of the Sun comes to pass, the guarded place shall be made an asylum for corrupt ones and the dreamers will dream, and the twelve red ones will spoil the Earth.’” Cassandra quoted with the exact intonation that the prophecy had been given to her in.
“Creepy and cryptic and completely useless.” Rush dismissed the prophecy completely.

Camp NaNoWriMo August 2012 Day 1

Finally I get to start writing A Guide to Inter-species Dating!  I've been really getting eager to write this project and now I can!

General Stats:
Words Written Today: 788
Total Words Written: 788
Cups of Coffee This Month: 1
Plans Changed to Accommodate More Writing: 0
Random Ideas Generated: 0

Random Thoughts:
- This was a small start but I didn't have as much writing time as I thought I would.
- I'm going to have to work hard to figure out how to fit in both my writing and my exercise routine.
- I actually have words to add to #WIP500 again. (I still suck at writing daily. )

Small Snippet of Novel:

It was never very difficult to find the vampire hunters.   All she had to do was follow her instincts and go to the club district in the industrial part of town.   For vampires with less control, the club district was a plentiful hunting ground though obviously it came with the risk of Final Death. Cassandra suppressed a shiver of excitement at the thought of actively seeking out a Vampire Hunter. The lads hunting in this city were handsome and delightfully muscled. She expects that they would taste utterly delicious. Not that she has any intention of finding out since self-preservation is one of her priorities, but it doesn’t hurt to fantasize.  Unless of course, one had an important task to perform and getting distracted when seeking out vampire hunters is a great way of getting fully dead.

Writing Update July 30

This week wasn't much better writing-wise than last week but I did make some writing progress.  This week marks the start of the August session of Camp NaNoWriMo.  This is where you should see some real writing progress made.  There will be some large jumps in word count for A Guide to Inter-species Dating, and if I run out of story before the end of the month, the Steampunk Seasonal Serial will get more words due to being behind schedule since I'd hoped to have the first draft long finished by now.  I'll try to keep up with posting my Camp NaNoWriMo stats on a daily basis but I won't make any promises for later in the month.

Brainstorming: A Guide to Inter-species Dating

I'm doing some brainstorming to make sure I have enough to write for the August Session of Camp NaNoWriMo and I could use some help.

I'm putting together a short story collection using advice given to couples trying to date outside their species and I need some more bits of advice to use as writing prompts. Here's what I have so far:

-Nobody likes a Stalker
-Once's she's dead, she's no longer your girlfriend
-An eternity of pining may seem romantic but the reality is pretty boring
-Love triangles aren't as fun if you are the only mortal
-Not all walking corpses are created equal
-Sometimes the chase is the best part
-Compatible lifestyles are very important
-Being eaten out is fun. Getting eaten? Not so much
-Sometimes magic isn't enough
-Bringing your lover back as a zombie is going to be unsatisfying for everyone
-If you can't touch, then maybe you aren't meant to be together.

So far this collection is a mix of Faeries, Elves, Humans, Werewolves, Vampires, Zombies and Ghosts. Also, lots of poking fun at common paranormal romance tropes.

So, what advice do you have for these poor couples?

Writing Update July 1

Look!  It's the return of my weekly writing updates.  That means I'm writing regularly again.  I'm trying to get back on track for WIP500.  It'll probably take lots of consistent writing and winning both the August and November NaNoWriMo Sessions.  I threw in the towel on the June session of Camp NaNoWriMo, so I'll be finishing that story during July.

My current goal for each day in July is to write 500 words on the Steampunk Seasonal Serial, spend at least half an hour on rewriting Hive Mind and a complete scene outlined for A Guide to Inter-species Dating.  A Guide to Inter-species Dating will be a short story collection to be written during the August Session of Camp NaNoWriMo.  I fully expect to finish outlining before the end of the July and will move on to outlining for other future projects.

Camp NaNoWriMo June 2012 Day 21

Well, I'm doing an excellent job of tanking Camp NaNoWriMo. My life has been chock full of distractions.  The big ones being work, dancing, picking up some volunteer hours, starting a new exercise routine and Full Seasons of Supernatural.

Current Status: 6,306 / 50,000

I have to write about 5K a day until the end of the month to reach 50K.  I've had 5K days before but I've never attempted to maintain a streak of 5K a day before.  I'm going to give it a go and see how many words I can come up with.  Hopefully the words flow fast and freely.

Camp NaNoWriMo June 2012 Day 2

General Stats:
Words Written Today: 510
Total Words Written: 2185
Cups of Coffee This Month: 2
Plans Changed to Accommodate More Writing: 1
Random Ideas Generated: 0

Random Thoughts:
- Too tired to get much writing done today.  Oh well, tomorrow is another day.
- The ideas for this story are finally starting to flow again.
- This go around is a bit too much pants-ing for me.

Small Snippet of Novel:

Julianne wrapped her scarf tightly around her neck to ward off the bitter cold of the day. The weak sunlight was doing very little to warm things up and Julianne was grateful for each and every layer that she had on. She realized that she was simply delaying going outside and sighed. She gently tugged her goggles down over her eyes to guard against the wind driven snow and slipped out the door of the workshop.

Camp NaNoWriMo June 2012 Day 1

I have, in true last minute fashion, decided to participate in Camp NaNoWriMo.  Luckily I have the bare bones of an idea ready to write.  Go Seasonal Steampunk Serial!  Since I need to get writing it anyway if I want to edit and post it this December...well, wish me luck!

General Stats:
Words Written Today: 1675
Total Words Written: 1675
Cups of Coffee This Month: 1
Plans Changed to Accommodate More Writing: 1
Random Ideas Generated: 0

Random Thoughts:
- Today's experience was filled with distractions galore but it feels good to be writing again
- I came to the realization that I don't write as well or consistently without the word count/deadline challenge of NaNoWriMo so I may be doing this often.  Hopefully the month or two off at a time will be enough to actually edit things.
- I actually have words to add to #WIP500 again. (I suck at writing daily.  I want to get better at it.)

Small Snippet of Novel:

It seemed like such a small object to given so much power for change. Her eyes traced the engraved patterns on the box trying to make sense of the endless lines. Eventually Julianne looked up to see Noreen staring at her expectantly. Noreen was familiar with Julianne’s tendency to get lost in her own thoughts but the impatience in her indulgent smile made it clear that she thought Julianne wasn’t present enough in this particular moment.
